Mixed Reception at Paris Blockchain Week

Paris Blockchain Week Summit is the flagship event of Paris Blockchain Week gathering more than 3000 attendees, 70 sponsors, 250 speakers and 100 media partners.

Organized by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Paris, the event is taking place at the Palais des Congrès de Paris.

The objective of the summit is to gather all the key players driving the development of blockchain technology, raise awareness about its potential and dangers, and provide an overview of its latest

During two days, Paris Blockchain Week Summit will host multiple sessions on effectively leveraging the blockchain. The summit also features an exhibition area with more than 30 exhibitors and several networking opportunities.

The PBWS event however has been met with mixed reactions from the worldwide blockchain community. The major issue is that some people believe that the Paris event is way too focused on enterprise applications of blockchain technology and not enough on blockchain adoption among regular users.

Some believe that this event could be a major turning point for blockchain technology. The hope is that having a more enterprise-focused event, it will bring in more mainstream attention and adoption of the technology. However, others worry that this could lead to even more centralization of the industry as large corporations begin to control the technology.

Recent plans from the European Union to reduce the energy footprint of proof-of-work blockchain technologies failed to get through the European Parliament when voted on in March. But a second, also controversial, anti-money laundering measure did pass and could now become regulatory law if governments also sign up.

The new rules would mean crypto exchange providers must “provide a full report to the authorities … when they see an unhosted wallet is involved, without even considering the threshold,” Hedi Navazan, head of compliance for Crystal Blockchain, told PBWS attendees Wednesday.
